Small Rituals, Big Shifts: Daily Habits That Keep Me Grounded | Invityz

Hello, I’m Ahiru — an introvert who’s not exactly known for public sharing. But somehow, here I am, keeping up with my third day of writing in a row. That alone feels like a personal victory.

I posted my very first blog on this platform over a year ago, but like many, I let it fade into the background under the all-too-convenient excuse of being “busy with work.” If I’m being honest, though, it wasn’t the workload — it was my own introversion that held me back.

Now, with a bit more time on my hands and a conscious decision to step away from my corporate career, I’ve begun carving out space to reflect and share what’s been helping me lately — especially the small habits that have quietly shaped my days for the better.

Why Habits Matter More Than Ever

As I shared in a recent post, I’ve just closed the door on over a decade of full-time employment and stepped into a new chapter — something of a career break. Call it a midlife pivot, a reset, or just a necessary breather.

Without a neatly defined job title or daily deadlines, I’m finally in charge of how I spend my time. It’s liberating — and daunting.

And that’s where habits come in.

For someone like me, establishing habits hasn’t always come naturally. When I was working, it was “work >>> everything else,” and even basic routines like eating breakfast were pushed aside. There was little energy left to build sustainable practices that truly supported my well-being.

Now, for the first time in years, I’m able to hold onto the habits I once struggled to maintain — and I’m starting to see how they’re giving me not just structure, but also emotional space and clarity.

My Everyday Rituals (as of July 2025)

Here’s what my current habit list looks like — simple, but grounding.

🧘‍♀️ Reflection & Mindfulness

  • Start each morning by reconnecting with the version of myself I want to become
  • Revisit my weekly & daily intentions and make small adjustments as needed
  • Update my wish list
  • Write daily entries in my 3-year journal
  • Post on blog (← like this one!)

🏃‍♀️ Health

  • Go to bed at 9 PM with my child and wake up at 5 AM
  • Go for a run at sunrise
  • Eat breakfast without skipping — something I used to neglect during my work life
  • No smartphone in the bedroom (digital detox)

📚 Learning & Growth

  • Continue my daily English practice (using the app Speak)
  • Read every night before bed (and read picture books to my child too)
  • Study Adobe tools more systematically
  • Teach myself DSLR photography (also giving shape to what I used to do intuitively)

What I’ve Learned

When building a habit, I’ve realized it’s not about adding more weight to my day.
The goal is the opposite — to make life feel lighter and clearer.

To get there, I’ve had to design these habits around my personality — with enough flexibility, kindness, and intention to make them sustainable. I’ll be sharing more about those strategies in future posts.

Thanks for reading this far. If this resonated with you, feel free to drop a like or comments — I’d love to keep crossing paths as we each navigate our own rhythms.
